  • Advanced Python For Biologists

    25 July - 29 May 2016

    Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Advanced Python For Biologists https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/advanced-python-for-biologists-3b007f2f-c334-478c-8b5b-cdbb7a7ce5ee This workshop is aimed at people who already have a basic knowledge of Python and are interested in using the language to tackle larger problems. In it, we will look in detail at the parts of the language which are particularly useful in scientific programming, and at the tools Python offers for making development faster and easier. The course will use examples and exercises drawn from various aspects of bioinformatics work. After completing the workshop, students should be in a position to (1) take advantage of the advanced language features in their own programs and (2) use appropriate tools when developing software programs. 2016-07-25 09:00:00 UTC 2016-05-29 00:00:00 UTC The University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom The University of Edinburgh Edinburgh United Kingdom EH9 3FD Bioinformatics Software engineering Biology [] [] [] workshops_and_courses [] []
  • Introduction to Python for Biologists

    12 - 16 December 2016

    Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Introduction to Python for Biologists https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/introduction-to-python-for-biologists-d358d018-fabc-4a90-9b9c-cfd4475411f5 Python is a dynamic, readable language that is a popular platform for all types of bioinformatics work, from simple one-off scripts to large, complex software projects. This workshop is aimed at complete beginners and assumes no prior programming experience. It gives an overview of the language with an emphasis on practical problem-solving, using examples and exercises drawn from various aspects of bioinformatics work. The workshop is structured so that the parts of the language most useful for bioinformatics are introduced as early as possible, and that students can start writing plausibly-useful programs after the first few sessions. After completing the workshop, students should be in a position to (1) apply the skills they have learned to tackling problems in their own research and (2) continue their Python education in a self-directed way. 2016-12-12 00:00:00 UTC 2016-12-16 00:00:00 UTC Edinburgh Genomics The King's Buildings, The University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom The King's Buildings, The University of Edinburgh Edinburgh United Kingdom Software engineering Bioinformatics [] [] [] workshops_and_courses [] BioinformaticsComputerprogrammingPython
