ELIXIR CZ Friday Coffee #5: Data Management with Data Stewardship Wizard https://tess.elixir-europe.org/materials/elixir-cz-friday-coffee-5-data-management-with-data-stewardship-wizard This short presentation was presented as part of the Friday Coffee presentation series organized by the ELIXIR CZ infrastructure and offered students a basic insight into data management and data management plans, which are important (not only) for the success of scientific projects, but increasingly for grant applications as well. The presentation also introduced students to the possibility of creating these plans using the [Data Stewardship Wizard](https://ds-wizard.org), a tool that creates the data management plan by filling out a simple, synoptic questionnaire. It offers a simple and very effective solution without the need for deep knowledge of data stewardship or data management. Video available [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YGrVGa9JYY). ObjTables Python tutorials https://tess.elixir-europe.org/materials/objtables-python-tutorials ObjTables is a toolkit for creating re-usable datasets that are both human and machine-readable, combining the ease of spreadsheets (e.g., Excel workbooks) with the rigor of schemas (classes, their attributes, the type of each attribute, and the possible relationships between instances of classes). ObjTables consists of a format for describing schemas for spreadsheets, numerous data types for science, a markup format for indicating the class and attribute represented by each table and column in a workbook, and software for using schemas to rigorously validate, merge, split, compare, and revision datasets. ObjTables is ideal for supplementary materials of journal article, as well as for emerging domains which need to quickly build new formats for new types of data and associated software with minimal effort. The tutorials provide a brief introduction to the ObjTables format for schemas for spreadsheets, the ObjTables markup syntax for spreadsheets, and the ObjTables Python package for parsing, validating, querying, editing, comparing, merging, splitting, revisioning, migrating, and analyzing spreadsheets. The number and the variety of pathogen sequenced genomes have been growing more dramatically these recent years, because of the new sequencing technologies. This wealth of new data is very useful to the research field through the development of bioinformatics tools and databases that deal with large amount of sequences. Among them, BLAST (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool) and MSA () programs are very efficient for protein or nucleotide sequence similarity search. The present course introduces the main biological databases, alignment tool BLAST and Multiple sequence alignments (MSA) programs, and interpretation of results. In this context, the enormous amount of sequence and genotype data is being generated on animal pathogens, which is further useful in understanding their pathogenicity and molecular epidemiology. The usage of this data in developing efficient molecular diagnostic tools needs basic understanding of the phylogenetic analysis. Phylogenetic classification, construction of trees, interpretation unveils the geographical distribution and migration of pathogens which helps in better management of animal diseases. The present course is designed with introduction to phylogenetics, tools, building and interpreting trees and finally its application to veterinary diagnostics. Though the course is driven in veterinary aspects, the same implicates to the human and plant pathogen study.
