Once this period is over there will be no live monitoring of the forums, but you can still join and complete the course during the remaining period. ### Why join the course? The increase in resistance of harmful bacteria to antibiotics is a major global threat to health. Here we explore bacterial genomes and the use of genome sequencing to identify and track these drug resistant bacteria. Join us to discover how genome research is helping scientists and healthcare professionals track disease outbreaks and prevent the rise of antibiotic resistant ‘superbugs’. ### Who is the course for? This course will be of interest to scientists, healthcare professionals, biomedical researchers and bioinformaticians. I am working on bacterial genomics and evolution with a focus on within-patient microbial diversity ### Dr Francesca Short I am a scientist at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.     VIBes in Biosciences 2020 https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/vibes-in-biosciences-2020 The VIBes in Bioscience PhD conference is an initiative from the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology (VIB) that takes place in Belgium. The organizing committee consists of motivated VIB PhD students, who bring together young and ambitious scientists from all over the globe to enjoy a series of training workshops and a top-quality conference. Selected speakers are renowned in different Life Sciences research fields such as inflammation & immunology, plant biology, cancer biology, structural biology, neuroscience and microbiology. Workshops The Symposium is preceded by half a day of workshops to improve your personal effectiveness, communication skills and awareness on possible career opportunities. We have invited internationally renowned trainers to share their experience and knowledge with you. Note that you need to register separately for the workshops, after registering for the symposium. Travel Grants We offer 50 travel grants to international PhD students, which will reimburse travel costs up to 200 euros.
