    Computational approaches to the study of protein interactions and rational drug design In this workshop, participants will familiarise with docking approaches to the study of protein-protein interactions (PPIs) and protein-small molecule interactions. Irreversible binders design using molecular docking and computational methods to rational drug design will be also described, as well as the functional role of the intrinsically disordered proteins. The Plenary lectures of N. Davey (10.02.2017), A. Bonvin, S. Forli and S. Moro (11.02.2017) will be open and free to everyone but require application. Practical sessions are limited to 30 participants. On the afternoon of day 3, participants can bring their own data (e.g. proteins they want to study interactions for). They will be split in groups based on the type of system they want to study (i.e protein-protein, protein-small ligand interactions or virtual screening) and will analyse it assisted by A. Bonvin and S.     COMBINE R for Bioinformatics workshop Bioconductor is an Open-Source repository for bioinformatics software in R Statistical Programming Language.     Training course on Python for Life Scientists Python is an object-oriented programming language that is ideal for biological data analysis. The course will start from zero knowledge, and will introduce the participants to all the basic concepts of Python such as calculating, organizing data, reading and writing files, program logic and writing larger programs. All the examples and practical sessions will focus on solving biological problems. In particular the sessions will cover: - working with DNA and protein sequences - data retrieval from files and their manipulation - running applications, such as BLAST, locally and from a script - finding motifs in sequence - parsing common file formats (Uniprot, GenBank, PDB) - ways to find and correct program errors. The course will be highly interactive and the students will continuously put theory into practice while learning.     Training Course on Best practices for RNA-Seq data analysis Next-generation sequencing (NGS) of RNA libraries (RNA-Seq) has become increasingly common and it largely replaced microarray technology for gene expression profiling. The aim of this course is to get a deeper understanding of RNA-Seq experiments, providing a theoretical introduction to the data processing steps, together with practical sessions illustrating the use of the most popular data analysis tools. The classroom size is limited to 25 participants to optimize the learning and the interaction with the instructors. Starting from the raw sequenced data coming from different phenotypical samples (e.g disease vs healthy control samples), genes which are differentially expressed between the two conditions are determine. Some strategies are illustrated for detecting alternative splicing products, predicting novel isoforms and gene fusion events. Some methods for downstream analysis are described to give insight into how biological knowledge can be generated from RNA-Seq experiments.     NETTAB 2018: Building a FAIR Bioinformatics environment NETTAB 2018 is organised in collaboration with ELIXIR Nodes of the UK and Italy as well as the Italian Society of Bioinformatics, BITS. The main focus will be on FAIR principles in bioinformatics, a challenging topic that we hope will attract many researchers from all over the world, including but not limited to, Bioinformaticians, Biologists, Computer Scientists, and others working or interested in the above research scope. The FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific data management and stewardship, published in 2016, has sparked worldwide interest across the biology community: from grassroots to policymakers, and from data providers to publishers. In order to make the FAIR concept a reality, we need to answer many questions, like: What is FAIRness? How to make FAIR data a reality? How to facilitate the translation to FAIR data? How to measure it? On these topics, there are many ongoing projects, such as EOSCpilot, FAIRmetrics, FAIRsharing, and GO-FAIR. Now is the perfect time to discuss on these topics and related actions, and to move on from FAIR principles to FAIR practice.     Regulatory Oxylipins Oxylipins, from plants and other organisms, form a constantly growing group of signalling molecules that comprise oxygenated fatty acids and their metabolites. The most renowned regulatory oxylipins are undoubtedly the jasmonates, which, following their discovery in the 1960s, became recognized as regulators of defence, floral organ development and fertility, as growth inhibitors and modulators of senescence, and as elicitors of specialized metabolism in numerous plant species. As such, the jasmonates currently belong to an elite group of heavily investigated phytohormones. Over the last decade, the understanding of biosynthesis, metabolism, and action of regulatory oxylipins has greatly advanced. The ROXY2019 meeting wishes to bring together the international community and leading researchers in the field. Thereby it aims to provide a timely and exciting forum to present and discuss the recent advances and expertise on the study of these molecules that are so crucial for plant growth, development, metabolism, and interaction with the environment. There will be seven plenary sessions that, through combining lectures from invited speakers and short talks on selected abstracts and posters, will highlight the various aspects involved in Regulatory Oxylipin research.
