    RNA-Seq using R https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/rna-seq-using-r The Monash Bioinformatics Platform want to help make introductory bioinformatic approaches part of the research landscape in Biomedicine. To do this, a foundation level of expertise amongst as many researchers as possible is an important step forward. The platform will then be available to facilitate this work as well as develop more advanced bioinformatic projects with our researchers. We are running a two day hands-on workshop with a focus on enabling researchers to be able to analyse RNASeq (next-gen sequencing) data. Day 1, we will begin by teaching an introduction to programming using the R language. Day 2 will focus on using this knowledge to perform bioinformatic data analysis of some RNASeq data. Day one (Programming in R) is optional, for those well-versed in the R programming language, or programming in general. The workshop will be taught in a similar style to Software Carpentry workshops. Software Carpentry's mission is to help scientists and engineers get more research done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic lab skills for scientific computing. Part of this will be the ontological annotation of OpenRiskNet Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) as used on their cloud.     Introduction to RNA-seq Data Analysis https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/introduction-to-rna-seq-data-analysis-5989e86e-a408-481d-b3c7-5a1413b0e4a6 RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) is quickly becoming the method of choice for transcriptome profiling. Nevertheless, it is a non-trivial task to transform the vast amount of data obtained with high-throughput sequencers into useful information. Thus, RNA-seq data analysis is still a major bottleneck for most researchers in this field. The ability of correctly interpreting RNA-seq results, as well as knowledge on the intrinsic properties of these data, are essential to avoid incorrect experimental designs and the application of inappropriate analysis methodologies. The aim of this workshop is to familiarise researchers with RNA-seq data and to initiate them in the analysis by providing lectures and practicals on analysis methodologies.
