  • Introductory Linux Tutorial for Life Sciences 4

    10 - 12 December 2019

    Elixir node event
Introductory Linux Tutorial for Life Sciences 4 https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/introductory-linux-tutorial-for-life-sciences-4 NBIS (the Swedish node of ELIXIR) and ELIXIR Slovenia are offering an "Introduction to Linux" course targeted at life scientists who want to extend their skills and knowledge. Big data (usually in the form of large text files) are generated nowadays in many fields of science. Trying to handle this data with applications like Word or Excel is difficult or impossible, while using the Linux command line can improve data processing efficiency. Unix/Linux provides an excellent computing environment for several disciplines (such as bioinformatics, physics, engineering) and the command line interpreter (shell) serves as an interface to many big-data processing programs. The course provides a basic introduction to Unix/Linux commands and covers how Unix/Linux commands can be used to manage and inspect your data and results, and how to generate and run pipelines and workflows using basic shell scripting. Finally, we will show you how the command line is used for access to supercomputers for boosting your scientific research. Participants will be able to attend the course either by traveling to Stockholm or to Umeå in Sweden, to Ljubljana in Slovenia, or by connecting remotely via the ELIXIR Slovenia eLearning Platform (EeLP). The number of remote students is limited to 30. The number of students per classroom is limited to 15 for Stockholm and Umeå, and 20 for Ljubljana. Additional participants will be placed on a waiting list and contacted as soon as space becomes available. The course will be broadcast from Sweden. ***The registration deadline has been extended until Friday, November 22.*** 2019-12-10 09:00:00 UTC 2019-12-12 17:00:00 UTC ELIXIR Sweden (NBIS) and ELIXIR Slovenia Bioinformatics Computer science NBISUniversity of Ljubljana, Faculty of Medicine [] Life Science ResearchersbioinformaticiansBiophysicistsengineers [] [] life sciences LinuxUnixEeLPeLearningCommand line
  • Systems Medicine - Virtual Spring Seminar Series 2020

    Elixir node event
Systems Medicine - Virtual Spring Seminar Series 2020 https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/systems-medicine-virtual-spring-seminar-series-2020 ELIXIR Slovenia will organize a **Virtual Spring Seminar Series 2020** where experts from all over the world will share their experiences with systems medicine. Systems medicine is a field that will enable the translation of recent technological and scientific advances into the clinical practice. With systems medicine we will boost our understanding of disease mechanisms and the efficacy of treatments. Ultimately, systems medicine will bring a more personalised approach to healthcare, which may radically change the interaction between patients, doctors and other healthcare professionals. New healthcare approaches are an urging need, even accelerated in the Covid-19 era. The webinars will be hosted by **Prof. Dr. Damjana Rozman, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia**. You can join the webinars on **Zoom** by [following this link](https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89751733107?pwd=REJ5ak1DUllyU2xvMHFpR2ZPNWhZdz09). **Programme:** **Wednesday, 29 April 2020, 16h – 17h CEST** Prof. Dr. Sona Vasudevan, Georgetown University, Washington D.C, USA Title: Systems Medicine with Three-dimensional Insights **Thursday, 30 April 2020, 16h – 18h CEST** Henning Hermjakob, EMBL-EBI, Cambridge, UK Johannes Griss, Medical University of Vienna, Austria Title: Reactome Pathway Analysis and Visualization **Thursday, 7 May 2020, 16h – 17h CEST** Prof. Dr. Josep Roca, University of Barcelona, Spain Title: Digital Health for Enhanced Understanding and Management of Health Events: COPD and COVID-19 as Use Cases **Wednesday, 13 May 2020, 16h – 17h CEST** Prof. Dr. Anke-Hilse Maitland-van der Zee, Amsterdam UMC, the Netherlands Title: Precision Medicine in Respiratory Medicine, Translation into Clinical Practice **Wednesday, 20 May 2020, 16h – 17h CEST** Prof. Dr. Kristel van Steen, KU Leuven, Belgium Title: TBA **Wednesday, 27 May 2020, 16h – 17h CEST** TBA 2020-04-29 16:00:00 UTC 2020-05-27 17:00:00 UTC University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Medicine Systems medicine Personalised medicine University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Medicine ELIXIR Slovenia PhysiciansLife Science ResearchersbioinformaticiansClinicians workshops_and_courses [] systems medicinepersonalized medicineWebinareLearning
  • WORKSHOP: Online data analysis for biologists - November 2020

    12 November 2020

WORKSHOP: Online data analysis for biologists - November 2020 https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/workshop-online-data-analysis-for-biologists-november-2020 Galaxy is an online platform for biological research that allows people to use computational data analysis tools and workflows without the need for programming experience. It is an open source, web-based platform for accessible, reproducible, and transparent computational biomedical research. It also captures run information so that workflows can be saved, repeated and shared efficiently via the web. This interactive beginners workshop will provide an introduction to the Galaxy interface, histories and available tools. The material covered in this workshop is freely available through the Galaxy Training Network. 2020-11-12 14:00:00 UTC 2020-11-12 17:00:00 UTC Australian BioCommons Australia, Australia Australia Australia Bioinformatics [] [] Biologists workshops_and_courses [] GalaxyData analysislifescience
