CAS Personalized Molecular Oncology

Basel, SwitzerlandCAS Personalized Molecular Oncology https://advancedstudies.unibas.ch/courses/course/cas-personalized-molecular-oncology-191983 https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/cas-personalized-molecular-oncology The CAS in Personalized Molecular Oncology aims at providing a comprehensive and integrative view of the field, by covering all the aspects involved along the pipeline: (i) tumor biology and genetics, (ii) molecular pathology, (iii) clinical bioinformatics, and (iv) clinical oncology. First of its kind in Switzerland, it will focus on the methodologies used to generate, analyze and interpret patients’ molecular profiles, also touching upon the associated technical, regulatory and ethical challenges. As an important outcome, it will establish a common language between the wide range of professionals involved in the personalized oncology process, from biologists, bioinformaticians, pathologists to clinicians, enabling an efficient and better informed use of e.g. genomic data for both routine clinical practice and clinical research. Moreover, it should empower professionals to develop a vision for their own institution, by critically evaluating the potential benefits and limitations of current and future developments in personalized oncology. With the drop-in cost of sequencing technologies, large amounts of omics data are being generated and made accessible to researchers. Analysing these complex high-volume data is not trivial and the use of classical tools cannot explore their full potential. Machine learning can thus be very useful in mining large omics datasets to uncover new insights that can advance the field of medicine and improve health care. The aim of this tutorial is to introduce participants to the Machine learning (ML) taxonomy and common machine learning algorithms. The tutorial will cover the methods being used to analyse different omics data sets by providing a practical context through the use of basic but widely used R and Python libraries. Oeiras, PortugalPlant Phenotyping https://biodata.pt/event/plant-phenotyping-genotyping-data-management-workshop https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/plant-phenotyping Plant phenotyping research has gone through a data revolution with the automation of plant phenotyping platforms, making it critical to adopt good data management practices in order the exploit the torrent of data to its full potential. Concretely, data should be published in a Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) way in order to enable the integration of data from disparate sources and the discovery of new knowledge. Yet, this is one of the more challenging domains to standardize, as it is extremely heterogeneous in terms of experimental settings and types of data. The ELIXIR infrastructure, with prominent contributions from BioData.pt (the Portuguese ELIXIR node) has been tackling this challenge at the European and international level, by developing standards and services to enable the management of plant phenotype-genotype data and its publication in accordance with the FAIR principles.
