  • CyVerse UK RNASeq Workshop

    CyVerse UK RNASeq Workshop https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/cyverse-uk-rnaseq-workshop This meeting is focused on researchers who are either at the beginning of their studies or have moved onto a new subject area and will be analysing RNAseq expression data as part of their studies. This workshop is designed for non-bioinformatic experts and will be run at a level appropriate for wet-lab researchers without previous bioinformatics experience. We will provide hands-on sessions that will describe the use of software tools that can interrogate RNAseq data and the biological relevance of these tools. The workshop will also demonstrate different ways to visualise RNAseq data. Prior to the workshop we will provide an example dataset that will be analysed as part of the workshop. This hands-on training will be useful for the analysis of delegates’ own data. In addition we include a session on Open Data and data reuse strategies that can benefit your research. We are also offering a optional one-day Genomics Data Carpentry (Monday December 10) for researchers who have limited or no previous command-line experience. This optional section will introduce you to analysing data in R, and better prepare you for future analyses.     de novo assembly https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/de-novo-assembly-2ec75e9e-6b89-4676-91d6-cd55df30e183 The course will provide an introduction to de novo assembly, with a hands on introduction followed by in-depth analysis of the key steps in the process. It covers several aspects such as the initial setup of a de novo genome sequencing project, quality control and preprocessing of datasets, generation and evaluation of first pass assemblies, assembly improvement and finishing. Practical exercises will be performed on small-scale real datasets, including short and long reads. We will present best practices and provide tips based on EI's faculty experience. The course will consist of a mixture of conceptual lectures, methodological lectures and hands on sessions, as well as group activities and discussions. The participants will gain first-hand experience and understanding on NGS assembly, working with the assistance of the faculty, troubleshooting small problems, and reviewing the results. This course provides an introductory overview about the most useful resources and tools to investigate signalling pathways and network, and also to introduce basic approaches to model signalling events. Hands-on trainings will give a wide overview on tools and concepts related to signalling networks. In this course you will learn how to use Cytoscape, where to find the most reliable signalling data, how to reconstruct, analyze and visualize a network. A substantial part of the course will be devoted to hands-on experience with bioinformatics resources and tools relevant in metagenomics data analysis. Participants will start with an overview of NGS technologies, a look at experimental approaches and emerging technologies, including a tour of Earlham Institute’s Genomic Pipelines laboratories.
