    Training Course on Best practices for RNA-Seq data analysis https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/training-course-on-best-practices-for-rna-seq-data-analysis Next-generation sequencing (NGS) of RNA libraries (RNA-Seq) has become increasingly common and it largely replaced microarray technology for gene expression profiling. The aim of this course is to get a deeper understanding of RNA-Seq experiments, providing a theoretical introduction to the data processing steps, together with practical sessions illustrating the use of the most popular data analysis tools. The classroom size is limited to 25 participants to optimize the learning and the interaction with the instructors. Starting from the raw sequenced data coming from different phenotypical samples (e.g disease vs healthy control samples), genes which are differentially expressed between the two conditions are determine. Some strategies are illustrated for detecting alternative splicing products, predicting novel isoforms and gene fusion events. Some methods for downstream analysis are described to give insight into how biological knowledge can be generated from RNA-Seq experiments.     Workshop on High-Content Imaging and Data Science for Virtual Screening and Drug Discovery https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/workshop-on-high-content-imaging-and-data-science-for-virtual-screening-and-drug-discovery High-throughput phenotypic screening, based on high-content imaging, is increasingly often used as a tool for drug discovery. Compound screens are used to find hits that produce the desired phenotypes in relevant cellular assays. Genomic screens are used to elucidate the underlying molecular pathways and identify suitable drug targets. Since high-content screening produces a lot of data, data science approaches such as statistics, machine learning and neural networks can help interpret the collected data. Just as virtual screening can be performed in chemoinformatics (learning predictive models for QSAR - quantitative structure-activity relations) from data obtained through compound screens, similar approaches can be taken in the context of high-throughput phenotypic screening. This will be the first event of its kind in the region of Slovenia and Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. The event will bring together a group of experts covering different topics in the fields of high-content screening, image analysis, chemoinformatics and machine learning. This will allow graduate students and researchers from both academia and industry to familiarize themselves with these cutting-edge topics. The workshop will have an impact on both the academic and industrial sector in the region (e.g. biotech companies of all sizes). We will present POSTGAP, a pipeline which merges genetic associations curated from literature with functional genomics, epigenetic and expression data (e.g., eQTL, promoter capture Hi-C, DNase hypersensitivity sites, regulatory elements) to resolve association signals at a locus and link each variant to its target gene(s) using a single evidence score. The portal also incorporates pre-computed fine-mapping at trait-associated loci across hundreds of UK Biobank phenotypes as well as cross-trait colocalization, furthering drug repurposing opportunities. This workshop will enable you to effectively use Open Targets Genetics to gain biological insight, prioritize genes, and inform target decision-making.
