  • Biomolecular data mining: a hands-on training

    11 - 13 September 2017

    Antwerpen, Belgium

    Elixir node event
Biomolecular data mining: a hands-on training This course aims to introduce the core principles and biomedical applications of different data mining and machine learning techniques in a hands-on manner. It will tackle both unsupervised (clustering, frequent pattern mining, data projection) and supervised (classification) techniques. The methods that will be seen include hierarchical clustering, k- means clustering, item set mining, association rule mining, principle component analysis, support vector machines, random forests, bayesian networks and artificial neural networks. Attendees will be introduced to the basic operations of these data mining techniques, with a focus on the practical use and interpretation of these procedures rather than the mathematical formulas. In addition, attendants will be introduced to some important data processing and performance evaluation methods related to these data mining techniques. The software used in this course will be R. The course itself will consist of 50% theory lessons, 40% hands-on practicals and 10% application case studies. Organised by biomina: Dr. Pieter Meysman Prof. dr. • Applied Bioinformatics in Life Sciences

    10 - 11 March 2022

    Leuven, Belgium

Applied Bioinformatics in Life Sciences Bioinformatics has quickly become an integral part of life sciences research by enabling innovative computational approaches in an increasingly data-dense environment. Inspired by the sold-out editions in 2016, 2018, and 2020, VIB (a non-profit life sciences research institute) is organizing this fourth edition to highlight recent developments in bioinformatics research, and to showcase its impact in medical, agricultural, and biotechnological research. Nationally and internationally renowned speakers will present recent scientific findings in applied bioinformatics. They will shed light on the future perspectives of their research in the following plenary sessions: Image analysis Single cell analysis Proteomics and metabolomics Data integration Besides an inspiring scientific program, conference participants will have ample networking opportunities during poster sessions and the conference dinner. Information for poster submissions: The format for your poster should be: A0 (841 x 1189 mm / 33.1 x 46.8 in), portrait orientation. All accepted poster submissions will have a chance to win the poster prize! Live & Virtual tickets Next to the live tickets, we will provide virtual tickets. A virtual registration includes access to all of the plenary talks (livestreamed and on demand) and facility to submit questions. 2022-03-10 08:00:00 UTC 2022-03-11 18:00:00 UTC VIB Provinciehuis, Provincieplein 1, Leuven, Leuven, Belgium Provinciehuis, Provincieplein 1, Leuven Leuven Vlaams-Brabant Belgium 3010 Imaging Data mining Computational biology Machine learning Bioinformatics VIB VIB Conferences - +329 244 66 11 - [] Life Science Researchers 200 meetings_and_conferences [] Big DatabioinformaticsComputational Biologydata mining and analysisImagingmachine learningArtificial Intelligence
