    22 - 24 May 2019

    Alcalá de Henares, Spain

    Elixir node event
4th Instruct Biennial Structural Biology Conference https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/4th-instruct-biennial-structural-biology-conference Instruct is a distributed European Research Infrastructure, which provides scientists with access to all major cutting edge technologies that enable biomacromolecular structure determination at atomic resolution. Access to all of these technologies has been available to European member researchers from February 2012. The inaugural Instruct Structural Biology Meeting at Heidelberg in 2013 successfully showcased integrative structural biology and its impact on biological research and biomedicine. The second Biennial took place in Florence in 2015 continuing the integrative line with an increased focus on innovation. The last edition which took place in Brno in the Czech Republic included sessions representing recent structural biology highlights, emerging methods and technologies and results of biomedical importance. We have already confirmed outstanding speakers for this 4th edition and we are looking forward to see you there. **Registration Fees:** €65 for participants from Instruct Countries €450 for participants from non-Instruct Countries This will cover attendance, coffee breaks, lunch and conference gala. There will be additional costs for accommodation. **Abstract Submission Deadlines:** Abstract submission: March 1st 2019 Student fellowship: March 1st 2019 Women in Science fellowship: March 1st 2019 Registration closed: April 1st 2019 Every eligible abstract will be selected for poster presentation and four abstracts will be selected for oral presentation. 2019-05-22 13:00:00 UTC 2019-05-24 16:00:00 UTC Parador de Alcalá de Henares, 8, Calle Colegios, Alcalá de Henares, Spain Parador de Alcalá de Henares, 8, Calle Colegios Alcalá de Henares Madrid Spain Structural biology [] INB/ELIXIR-ES [] meetings_and_conferences [] []

  • ELIXIR Webinar: Trustworthy data repositories in the Life Sciences: The role of CoreTrustSeal Certification

    29 May 2019

ELIXIR Webinar: Trustworthy data repositories in the Life Sciences: The role of CoreTrustSeal Certification https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/elixir-webinar-trustworthy-data-repositories-in-the-life-sciences-the-role-of-coretrustseal-certification With the recent report ‘Turning FAIR data into reality’, CoreTrustSeal (CTS) is playing an increasingly prominent role in the ecosystem of generating and serving FAIR data. This webinar will introduce the Trustworthy concept and data repository certifications including CTS. About CoreTrustSeal CoreTrustSeal (http://www.coretrustseal.org) offers certification for data repositories based on the CoreTrustSeal Data Repositories Requirements catalogue and procedures. CoreTrustSeal sets overarching criteria that embrace the prior standards of World Data System (WDS) and the Data Seal of Approval (DSA), as well as the ISO 16363 and DIN 31644 standards. Those standards of Trustworthy Data Repositories are to ensure long-term services to provide data complying with the FAIR principles of Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. Since September 2017, CoreTrustSeal has certified over 50 repositories worldwide (predominantly from the social sciences and humanities, with increasing uptake from life sciences) and thus is a key component of the emerging infrastructure for open, data-centric science. CoreTrustSeal works with candidate repositories to meet 16 Requirements that will ensure they are persistent trustworthy sources of data and data services. The Requirements reflect the mission focused on data provision and preservation, appropriate expert staffing levels, technical infrastructure, governance, and guaranteed continuance. Candidate repositories must have documented workflows from ingestion to dissemination; curatorial practices that secure the integrity and authenticity of the data; and apply the most suitable licensing, confidentiality, and ethical practices for their domains. They must show that they have appropriate metadata management and archival functions, be open to review and able to evolve (see https://www.coretrustseal.org/why-certification/requirements/). What will you learn This webinar will provide an introduction to the importance and benefits of repository certification in the context of highlighting the prominent roles of data repositories in enabling data FAIR. Participants will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the CoreTrustSeal certification requirements and procedures, gaining a better understanding of the necessary steps for certification, and how compliance with documented criteria may be met. CoreTrustSeal experts with a background in the Life Sciences will report on their experiences with CoreTrustSeal certification of a few certified biomedical data repositories and answer certification-related questions. 2019-05-29 14:00:00 UTC 2019-05-29 14:00:00 UTC [] [] [] [] [] []

    Gent, Belgium

    Elixir node event
International Conference on Polyploidy https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/international-conference-on-polyploidy The International Conference on Polyploidy will present cutting edge research into the importance of polyploidy and whole genome duplication for genetics, evolution and ecology. For the 2019 meeting, which will take place at the beautiful city of Ghent, we are trying to put together an exciting program focusing on many different aspects of polyploidy, such as the short- and long-term ecological and evolutionary consequence of polyploidy for plant and animal systems, but also polyploidy in somatic cells and clonal populations will be discussed. The International Conference on Polyploidy will present a unique opportunity to meet and discuss with colleagues, get updated on the newest developments and insights into recent and ancient polyploidy and whole genome duplication, and will provide unique possibilities to network and discuss collaborations. We are delighted to announce that Dr. Ilia Leitch (Kew Gardens) has agreed to deliver the plenary lecture on Tuesday afternoon, June 11th, opening the meeting. • Instruct course on Image Processing for Electron Microscopy and hybrid modelling

    8 - 11 July 2019

    Madrid, Spain

    Elixir node event
Instruct course on Image Processing for Electron Microscopy and hybrid modelling https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/instruct-course-on-image-processing-for-electron-microscopy-and-hybrid-modelling Software platforms as Scipion facilitate the integration of packages from many different laboratories, and promote the cross-checking of the results by alternative methods. Additionally, it keeps track of all the operations, parameters and steps undertaken from the raw data to the final maps and models, promoting, in this way, the reproducibility of the results. Scipion was originally designed to support image processing operations in Single Particle Analysis. However, due to the widespread need to related quasi atomic Coulomb potential maps and model building, with an ever growing potential of simultaneously combining features of both, Sicipion is currently being extended into the atomic modelling domain. In this way it integrates software like Coot, Chimera, Refmac, and Phenix, and the number of integrated packages and procedures is quickly growing. In addition to simplifying the access to all these software packages in an integrated manner, Scipion adds a traceability and reproducibility layer so that any other researcher can understand the modelling workflow followed to reach a particular model. The course is interesting for users to know the image processing and the atomic modelling capabilities of Scipion. This course will bring a timely introduction to these possibilities to investigators at all levels (Ph.D. students, postdocs and senior researchers) 2019-07-08 14:00:00 UTC 2019-07-11 13:00:00 UTC Centro Nacional de Biotecnología, 3, Calle Darwin, Madrid, Spain Centro Nacional de Biotecnología, 3, Calle Darwin Madrid Madrid Spain Electron microscopy National Center for Biotechnology (CNB) [] [] workshops_and_courses registration_of_interest hybrid modellingelectron microscopyScipionimage processingReproducibleResearch
