  • ELIXIR biocontainers hackathon

    9 - 11 October 2017

    Paris, France

ELIXIR biocontainers hackathon https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/elixir-biocontainers-hackathon The “ELIXIR Software Deployment Group” is one of the six working groups of the ELIXIR tools platform. It has been recently formed to support bioinformatics software deployment efforts including packages and containers. At the moment this group is sustained by ELIXIR Nodes sharing a common interest to work together on a harmonised strategy. The activities of this group are extremely relevant to other two groups within ELIXIR Tools platforms: “Workflows & workbenches” and “Software development best practices” because it represents the starting point for the development of reproducible pipelines and workflows in bioinformatics.  This group would like to accelerate and consolidate the Containers Platform as a Service, and the integration with other groups like Workflows & workbenches and Software tools (Bio.Tools). To do so we proposed to have a 2.5 days hackathon. In practice the hackathon will give us the opportunity to work on three different topics: Improve the current metadata and definitions for BioContainers and increase the number of containers in  Biocontainers.  Integration of Biocontainers (https://biocontainers.pro/) and other initiatives Bioshadock (http://bioshadock.genouest.org/), BioConda. Connect better the containers registry (http://biocontainers.pro/registry) with Bio.tools and Workflow systems such as Galaxy and CWL. Define a strategy (Metadata) for “Training Containers”, design an infrastructure for hosting containers in ELIXIR and engage the training community to create containers for training purposes. 2017-10-09 09:00:00 UTC 2017-10-11 00:00:00 UTC 11 Rue Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, France 11 Rue Pierre et Marie Curie Paris France [] [] [] workshops_and_courses [] []

ELIXIR TrCG / TeCG F2F Meeting https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/elixir-trcg-tecg-f2f-meeting This year the Technical Coordinators Group (TeCG) and the Training Coordinators Group (TrCG) will have their annual face to face meeting together in a joint meeting in Paris. The objective of the coordinators groups is to facilitate knowledge exchange, identify issues and opportunities and provide advice to HoNs. This meeting will include node updates, platform updates and a retrospective and discussion of future plans. The joint meeting will include a topic discussion centred on an update on how metrics are used in ELIXIR and a discussion about how they can be used to evaluate the success/impact of ELIXIR as an infrastructure. 2017-10-11 13:00:00 UTC 2017-10-13 13:00:00 UTC Institut Henri Poincaré, France Institut Henri Poincaré France [] [] [] meetings_and_conferences [] []

  • BioHackathon 2018 Paris

    12 - 16 November 2018

    France

BioHackathon 2018 Paris https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/biohackathon-2018-paris ELIXIR France with the support of the ELIXIR Hub and the ELIXIR Interoperability Platform and in collaboration with the National Bioscience Database Center (NBDC) and the Database Center for Life Science (DBCLS) is organising a BioHackathon in November 2018 in Paris. Scope The topics of this biohackathon will be broader than semantics and interoperability typically predominant in the BioHackathons organised in Japan. The priority topics will be defined by ELIXIR Platforms, ELIXIR Use Cases and a selection of communities proposed by ELIXIR France. We specially welcome non ELIXIR members to join and work with ELIXIR partners on activities relevant for ELIXIR and the bioinformatics community in general. Though most of the topics of the BioHackathon are expected to be aligned to existing ELIXIR activities the BioHackathon will also be open to new tools and communities (eg. Cytoscape and reproducible networks) Goals Engage the technical people in the bioinformatics community inside and outside ELIXIR to work together on topics of common interest aligned to ELIXIR activities Make more robust the interactions with new ELIXIR communities (e.g.  Metabolomics and Proteomics) to establish and reinforce collaborations through hands-on programming activities organised at the event.
