Psomopoulos Date: 28/01/2020 - 30/01/2020 Location: ATC Computer Training Lab Contents: The missing step between data collection and research progress is a lack of training for researchers in crucial skills for effectively managing and analysing large amounts of data. This hands on workshop teaches researchers the fundamental data skills they need to conduct their work, and provides high-quality, domain-specific training covering the full lifecycle of data-driven research. The domain-specific approach allows participants to tailor the data, content, and tools to reflect the specific data and analysis needs of different areas: - Data organisation and cleaning - Introduction to R - Data analysis and visualisation in R - Interacting with databases from R - Data analysis with applications to genomics Learning goals: You will learn... - how to organise data and some practices for more effective data handling - to effectively clean and format data and automatically track any changes - to use R to handle, filter, and summarise tabular data - to use the split-apply-combine concept for data analysis - to visualise the results of these analyses in R using the ggplot2 library - to apply all of the concepts in an exploratory analysis of a typical biological dataset Prerequisities: The course is aimed at graduate students and other researchers in the life sciences who would like to learn good practices in data management and analysis. The course is ideally suited to students without prior experience in computational research, but some familiarity with working with tabular data on a computer is welcome. • Translational Immunology

    26 - 27 March 2020

    Gent, Belgium

    Elixir node event
Translational Immunology https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/translational-immunology The aim of this conference is to bridge the translational gap in immunopathology, bringing together clinicians, research scientists and industry partners to discuss prominent advances from the bench to the clinic. The different sessions will have a particular focus on precision medicine in general, starting from disease-oriented cases and lessons learned. Innovative and alternative therapeutic strategies in immune-mediated disorders will be presented, besides the regulatory challenges that companies and researchers are dealing with. • Genome Engineering and Synthetic Biology (4th edition)

    10 - 11 September 2020

    Gent, Belgium

    Elixir node event
Genome Engineering and Synthetic Biology (4th edition) https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/genome-engineering-and-synthetic-biology-4th-edition Genome Engineering and Synthetic Biology are revolutionizing Life Sciences. Driven by advances in the CRISPR-toolbox for rapid, cheap, multiplex modification of genomes and breakthroughs in DNA synthesis technologies, the pace of progress enabled by these tools in the last years has been breathtaking. The first three editions (September 2013, January 2016, January 2018) were a roaring success and we are pleased to announce the 4th edition of GESB in beautiful Ghent in September, 2020. Travel Grants We offer 5 travel grants to international attendees, which will reimburse travel costs up to 400 Euros. Are you interested in attending GESB20 and want to have a chance on a travel grant? Submit your motivation below by clicking on the 'Apply for a grant' button before 4 June 2020. The organizing committee will notify you of your travel grant acceptance by the end of June. No registration is needed before submitting a travel grant proposal. When you’re awarded with a travel grant you will receive a practical email containing the next steps. Note that being awarded a travel grant does not mean being registered for the conference.
