Lean Practitioner https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/lean-practitioner Presented by: Tony Bendell Level: Foundation CPD: 48 hours The first workshop will be held on 27-30 March 2017, with the follow up workshop taking place on 8-11 May 2017.  The Lean Practitioner Development Programme has been purpose built to enable delegates to build the competency requirements for certification as Lean Practitioners under ISO18404, and to prepare to pass the separate Royal Statististical Society Assessment. This 8-day course (two split workshops) will enable delegates to be directly prepared for Lean Leader status under ISO18404.  At the end of the course, certified delegates will have the knowledge, experience, tools and techniques to not only champion Lean implementation, act as an agent of change and plan and deploy Lean Transformation Strategy within the organisation, but also to run successful waste reduction projects themselves. The programme has been developed to assist managers in their understanding of the key concepts of Lean and the pursuit of a Lean organisation, facilitating them to manage, support and lead Lean Transformation. As well as this, the programme provides all the skills and support necessary to run their first individual Lean improvement project in their organisation under our supervision. Lean Expert https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/lean-expert Presented by: Tony Bendell Level: Professional CPD: 36 hours Please note this course has three stages: the initial workshop (24-26 April), the individual candidate development of portfolio of evidence (in own time), and the end of programme workshop (5-7 June). The new ISO18404 standard defines Lean Experts as the pinnacle of Lean enterprise personnel, above Lean Practitioners and Lean Leaders, and broadly equivalent to Six Sigma Master Black Belts. The Lean Expert Development Programme has been designed to enable experienced Lead Leaders to meet the certification requirements as Lean Experts under ISO18404, and to prepare delegates to pass the separate Royal Statistical Society Assessment. The programme consists of an initial workshop; candidate’s application, skill and portfolio development within their own organisation, involving tutor assessment and coaching visits and observation; and an end of programme workshop, assessment and development seminar.  Delegates are assessed throughout the programme and candidates who complete satisfactory portfolios and pass the in-programme assessments will be certificated as Lean Experts by the course tutors and be prepared for independent assessment by the Royal Statistical Society, and if successful certification, as Lean Experts under ISO18404:2015. Interactive visualisation https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/interactive-visualisation Presenter: Martin John Hadley Level: Foundation CPD: 6 hours This course will introduce two technologies that will fundamentally change your use of R for data presentation on the web: htmlwidgets and Shiny. The first half of the course introduces RMarkdown and htmlwidgets, demonstrating how reports with interactive tables, maps and charts can be written and published to the web using RStudio. The second half of the course introduces the basics of Shiny, a web framework for creating sophisticated interactive applications using only the R language. Htmlwidgets and Shiny are thoroughly underused in the R community. This course will show you it is almost trivial to build interactive charts/maps/datatables with htmlwidgets and only slightly trickier to build sophisticated interactive applications with Shiny. The course focus is from the modeller’s perspective and on applications. Emphasis will be on model formulation, parameter estimation, and hypothesis testing, as well as on the distinction between the random-effects (hierarchical) model and the implied marginal model. The aim of the workshop is to show how useful surrogate models can be; to detail how to build such models in R; and to make clear the assumptions these models rely on. In the morning we introduce the concepts of Kriging through lectures and lab sessions. During the afternoon we see in more detail how to tune these models and how they can be used to solve optimization problems.
