  • Zebrafish as a Model in Biomedicine and Study of Human Diseases - 3rd Edition

    21 April 2017

    Faro, Portugal

Zebrafish as a Model in Biomedicine and Study of Human Diseases - 3rd Edition https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/zebrafish-as-a-model-in-biomedicine-and-study-of-human-diseases-3rd-edition This course was designed to provide basic knowledge on the use of the biological model zebrafish with main emphasis on its use in the context of the study of human diseases and biomedical sciences. Introduction to genetic manipulation and production of transgenic lines and "knock-out". It is intended to transfer skills for manipulation and use of the zebrafish in genetic manipulation techniques, applications of transgenics and mutants for study of phenotypes of interest, microinjection and studies of tissue regeneration. 2017-04-21 09:00:00 UTC 2017-04-21 18:00:00 UTC Paulo Gavaia University of the Algarve, Campus do Gambelas, Gambelas, Faro, Faro, Portugal University of the Algarve, Campus do Gambelas, Gambelas, Faro Faro Portugal Human disease Model organisms CCMAR, Centre for Marine Sciences Paulo Gavaia - pgavaia@ualg.pt [] [] workshops_and_courses first_come_first_served zebrafishhuman diseasebiomedicinetransgenic lines

  • Advanced Scientific Programming in Python

    14 - 21 January 2018

    Melbourne, Australia

Advanced Scientific Programming in Python https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/advanced-scientific-programming-in-python Applications are now open for this international school being held in the Southern Hemisphere for the first time. The Advanced Scientific Programming in Python (ASPP) summer school has had 10 extremely successful iterations in Europe (https://python.g-node.org/archives). Now, thanks to funding from the International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF), Melbourne is hosting the first ASPP workshop focussed on the Asia Pacific region. 2018-01-14 17:51:00 UTC 2018-01-21 17:51:00 UTC Juan Nunez-Iglesias, Melbourne Bioinformatics University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia University of Melbourne Melbourne Australia Imaging Neurobiology Informatics University of Melbourne aspp@melbournebioinformatics.org.au INCF Life Science Researcherspost-docsPhD studentsMaster studentsbioinformaticians workshops_and_courses [] Pythonneurosciencesbioinformatics
  • EMBO Practical Course Tree building: Advanced concepts and practice of phylogenetic analysis

    24 - 29 September 2018

    Faro, Portugal

EMBO Practical Course Tree building: Advanced concepts and practice of phylogenetic analysis https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/embo-practical-course-tree-building-advanced-concepts-and-practice-of-phylogenetic-analysis The use of phylogenetic methods to reconstruct the evolutionary history of molecular sequences is a vital part of biological research. These methods underpin studies on the evolution and epidemiology of plant and animal parasites and disease-causing organisms, and more generally they allow an objective analysis of the patterns and processes generating biological diversity. To carry out phylogenetic analysis properly, it is necessary to have a good understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the key methods and approaches. This EMBO Practical Course has been designed to provide the theoretical and practical skills needed to carry out state-of-the-art phylogenetic analyses. The past few years have seen have an explosion in new methods of analysis including the application of Bayesian analysis methods, the development of improved non-stationary models that better represent the dynamics of sequence evolution, the application of population genetic theory to phylogenies through the use of multispecies coalescent, and the development of methods for high-throughput genome-wide analyses. This EMBO Practical Course has been designed to cater for these newest methods and for understanding how they relate to the more traditional methods. Our goal is to teach technical sophistication without losing sight of the need for a critical attitude to data and analyses. 2018-09-24 09:00:00 UTC 2018-09-29 16:00:00 UTC Cymon J.
