EMBL-ABR & ELIXIR Workshop – Registries in Bioinformatics: tools, datasets, standards, events & training
9 December 2016
University of Melbourne, AustraliaEMBL-ABR & ELIXIR Workshop – Registries in Bioinformatics: tools, datasets, standards, events & training https://www.embl-abr.org.au/registries-workshop/ https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/embl-abr-elixir-workshop-registries-in-bioinformatics-tools-datasets-standards-events-training This workshop will provide an introduction to existing solutions and methods for registries across a variety of areas relevant to bioinformatics, such as tools, datasets, standards, events and training. The workshop will provide a forum for bioinformaticians to discuss pros and cons as well as general best practices when it comes to registries. It will also offer a hands on session on submission (content upload), dissemination (content pull) and visualisation. The final session will be a writing activity: based on the experience gained through the day, participants and faculty will write a review of existing registries, a guide for how to use registry information and summarise the next challenges. 2016-12-09 09:00:00 UTC 2016-12-09 00:00:00 UTC VLSCI - University of Melbourne Lab-14, University of Melbourne, Australia Lab-14 University of Melbourne Australia Data management Computational biology Bioinformatics workshops_and_courses ABRlifesciencebioinfoorganisms
de novo assembly
11 - 14 February 2019
Norwich, United Kingdomde novo assembly http://www.earlham.ac.uk/de-novo-assembly-2019 https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/de-novo-assembly-2ec75e9e-6b89-4676-91d6-cd55df30e183 The course will provide an introduction to de novo assembly, with a hands on introduction followed by in-depth analysis of the key steps in the process. It covers several aspects such as the initial setup of a de novo genome sequencing project, quality control and preprocessing of datasets, generation and evaluation of first pass assemblies, assembly improvement and finishing. Practical exercises will be performed on small-scale real datasets, including short and long reads. We will present best practices and provide tips based on EI's faculty experience. The course will consist of a mixture of conceptual lectures, methodological lectures and hands on sessions, as well as group activities and discussions. The participants will gain first-hand experience and understanding on NGS assembly, working with the assistance of the faculty, troubleshooting small problems, and reviewing the results. This year, we will be including more in-depth content on working with mixed datasets comprising different sequencing technologies, plus hands sessions covering basic assembly algorithm parameterisation. 2019-02-11 09:00:00 UTC 2019-02-14 17:00:00 UTC Earlham Institute Earlham Institute (EI), Colney Lane, Norwich, United Kingdom Earlham Institute (EI), Colney Lane Norwich Norfolk United Kingdom NR4 7UZ firstname.lastname@example.org workshops_and_courses de-novo genome assembly
