  • ELIXIR Europe conference: Core Resources for a Data Economy

    11 May 2017

    Brussels, Belgium

ELIXIR Europe conference: Core Resources for a Data Economy https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/elixir-europe-conference-core-resources-for-a-data-economy ELIXIR Core Data Resources are a set of data resources that are of fundamental importance to the broad life science community and the long-term preservation of biological data. Their impact is becoming increasingly apparent as greater volumes of complex data are being generated from national and EC-funded research projects. One of the core missions of ELIXIR is to provide stable and sustainable access to these resources.  The high-level conference will address several aspects of these topics, from the perspective of funders, infrastructure operators and users across industry and academia. The event will include an outline of the process that has been established to define the first set of ELIXIR Core Data Resources and panel discussions on the subjects of impact and sustainability. Representatives of the European Commission will give keynote talks on 'Building the European Data Economy' and 'Research Infrastructures for Open Science'.  Full programme in pdf Register here 2017-05-11 09:30:00 UTC 2017-05-11 17:00:00 UTC THON HOTEL EU, Brussels, Belgium THON HOTEL EU Brussels Belgium [] [] [] meetings_and_conferences [] []

  • OpenRiskNet/NanoCommons ontology meeting

    13 - 14 December 2018

    Brussels, Belgium

OpenRiskNet/NanoCommons ontology meeting https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/openrisknet-nanocommons-ontology-meeting The goal of this meeting is to get a picture of the ongoing ontology activities in the toxicology area, harmonize these efforts and the developed ontologies therein, and extend the existing toxicology ontology to support OpenRiskNet and NanoCommons tasks. Part of this will be the ontological annotation of OpenRiskNet Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) as used on their cloud. Other goals include extension of the ontology with missing terms (if any), potentially write up guidance documents, and annotation of data sets (possible via OpenRiskNet data APIs). 2018-12-13 13:00:00 UTC 2018-12-14 14:00:00 UTC University of Birmingham office in Brussels, Brussels, Belgium University of Birmingham office in Brussels Brussels Belgium Ontology and terminology Toxicology [] NanoCommonsOpenRiskNetH2020 [] workshops_and_courses [] risk assessmentnanosafetydata annotationservice descriptions
  • Bioinformatics tools to predict protein properties from sequence

    10 September 2019

    Brussels, Belgium

    Elixir node event
Bioinformatics tools to predict protein properties from sequence https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/bioinformatics-tools-to-predict-protein-properties-from-sequence In this workshop, we address how to predict features of proteins from their sequence only, using Python scripts to access APIs of web services available online. We will introduce single-sequence based predictions of biophysical characteristics of proteins (e.g. DynaMine for backbone dynamics), methods that use multiple sequence alignments (e.g. I-TASSER), and methods that determine the difference between a protein and its mutant form (e.g. DEOGEN2). We will also show how the results of these predictions can be combined and analysed using a protein case study. 2019-09-10 09:00:00 UTC 2019-09-10 00:00:00 UTC VIB Bioinformatics Core U-Residence Brussels, Brussels, Belgium U-Residence Brussels Brussels Belgium 1050 [] [] [] [] [] []

  • Nanobodies (Hybrid 2nd edition)

    8 - 10 September 2021

    Brussels, Belgium

Nanobodies (Hybrid 2nd edition) https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/nanobodies-hybrid-2nd-edition Nanobodies (Hybrid 2nd edition) 7-8 September 2021, Virtual & Brussels, Belgium Trends in Structural Biology satellite meeting on 10 september The discovery of nanobodies by Raymond Hamers in the 1980s and the further development of the technology by Serge Muyldermans and Jan Steyaert fundamentally changed approaches in different areas of medicine. Nanobodies are very useful in the diagnosis and treatment of serious and life-threatening diseases. As nanobodies were born at the University of Brussels, the VIB-VUB Center for Structural Biology is very honored to organize the hybrid second edition of the Nanobody conference. This meeting series was launched in September 2019 at the University of Bonn by Florian Schmidt and Paul-Albert König. During the 2day conference on 8-9 September 2021, leaders in the field will present their latest findings in sessions focused on: • Nanobody engineering • Innovative research tools • Nanobodies in diagnostics, imaging and microscopy • Nanobodies as therapeutic molecules • Nanobodies as anti-infectious agents On Friday 10 September, a satellite event ‘Trends in structural biology’ will be held. DEADLINES: • Abstract deadline 7 juli 2021 • Early Bird deadline 28 July 2021 • Late Registration deadline: 25 August 2021 Event URL: https://www.vibconferences.be/events/nanobodies-hybrid-2nd-edition What to expect from this hybrid event The scientific program (presentations, Q&A’s, and poster sessions) will be available for both live and virtual audiences. The virtual platform also offers several ways of interacting with each other through (video) chat. On top of this there will be live poster presentations for those attending the event in Brussels. Information for poster presenters The format for your (live) poster should be: A0 (841 x 1189 mm / 33.1 x 46.8 in), portrait orientation. The format for your (virtual) poster should be: 4 slides in 16:9 format + a recorded video of your talk. The best abstracts will have a short talk slot in the plenary program. The 2 best posters will win the Poster prize!
