  • ELIXIR Europe conference: Core Resources for a Data Economy

    11 May 2017

    Brussels, Belgium

ELIXIR Europe conference: Core Resources for a Data Economy https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/elixir-europe-conference-core-resources-for-a-data-economy ELIXIR Core Data Resources are a set of data resources that are of fundamental importance to the broad life science community and the long-term preservation of biological data. Their impact is becoming increasingly apparent as greater volumes of complex data are being generated from national and EC-funded research projects. One of the core missions of ELIXIR is to provide stable and sustainable access to these resources.  The high-level conference will address several aspects of these topics, from the perspective of funders, infrastructure operators and users across industry and academia. The event will include an outline of the process that has been established to define the first set of ELIXIR Core Data Resources and panel discussions on the subjects of impact and sustainability. Representatives of the European Commission will give keynote talks on 'Building the European Data Economy' and 'Research Infrastructures for Open Science'.  Full programme in pdf Register here 2017-05-11 09:30:00 UTC 2017-05-11 17:00:00 UTC THON HOTEL EU, Brussels, Belgium THON HOTEL EU Brussels Belgium [] [] [] meetings_and_conferences [] []

    Brussels, Belgium

    Elixir node event
Bioinformatics tools to predict protein properties from sequence https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/bioinformatics-tools-to-predict-protein-properties-from-sequence In this workshop, we address how to predict features of proteins from their sequence only, using Python scripts to access APIs of web services available online. We will introduce single-sequence based predictions of biophysical characteristics of proteins (e.g. DynaMine for backbone dynamics), methods that use multiple sequence alignments (e.g. I-TASSER), and methods that determine the difference between a protein and its mutant form (e.g. DEOGEN2). We will also show how the results of these predictions can be combined and analysed using a protein case study. 2019-09-10 09:00:00 UTC 2019-09-10 00:00:00 UTC VIB Bioinformatics Core U-Residence Brussels, Brussels, Belgium U-Residence Brussels Brussels Belgium 1050 [] [] [] [] [] []

Learning algorithms can figure out how to perform important tasks by generalizing examples. Typical applications are diagnoses/prognoses, gene/protein annotation, drug design, image recognition, text mining and many others. However, building successful machine learning models requires a substantial amount of “black art” that is hard to find in textbooks. This course is an interactive Jupyter Notebook (Python) that will teach you how to build successful machine learning models. No background in machine learning is assumed, just a keen interest. 2020-01-13 09:00:00 UTC 2020-01-14 00:00:00 UTC VIB Bioinformatics Core iGent, Gent, Belgium iGent Gent Belgium 9052 [] [] [] [] [] []
