    CRISPR-CAS9 TOOL:From Gene Function https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/crispr-cas9-tool-from-gene-function Today´s powerful new tools enable researchers to construct novel experiments in a wide range of fields—from basic biomedical research to biotechnology and medicine—allowing them to edit genomes at sites of their choosing. Using most recent technologies in genome engineering, it is now possible to create knock-in, knock-outs and mutations of any gene in any cell line or organism with high efficiency. This approach allows the perturbation of biological systems at the genomic as well as the proteomic level. In silico analysis provides a good approximation of molecular structure in relation to function, and is always used to predict and enhance the success of genome editing technologies.     ELIXIR Innovation and SME Forum: Genomics, bioinformatics and health - Public-private partnerships in open data https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/elixir-innovation-and-sme-forum-genomics-bioinformatics-and-health-public-private-partnerships-in-open-data Registration Full programme (pdf) The aim of this Innovation and SME forum is to showcase to companies the free data resources and services that are available through ELIXIR Spain and ELIXIR Europe more generally. It will feature talks from ELIXIR partners on some of the key databases and resources and present examples of innovative companies that are already using public data in their businesses. The event is free and open to all companies large and small, in the Barcelona region and further afield. It is organised by ELIXIR Spain and the ELIXIR Hub in collaboration with Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), biocat, BioInformatics Barcelona (BIB) and Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) and is particularly relevant for large and small companies active in the genomics and health domains. The keynote presentations include: Alfonso Valencia - Barcelona Supercomputing Center, ELIXIR Spain, Head of Node. Arcadi Navarro - Secretary of Universities and Research of the Generalitat de Catalunya Ferran Sanz - IMIM -  Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM) and Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) David Henderson - Bayer AG The Technical Seminars will be about ELIXIR and BIB resources and about public-private partnerships in open data, including presentations on the IMI. They will be led by: Serena Scollen (ELIXIR Head of Human Genomics and Translational Data), Jordi Rambla (Leader at European Genome Archive), Ana Ripoll (BIB), Phillip Gribbon (Fraunhofer-New Drugs for Bad Bugs), Salvador Capella and Josep Lluis Gelpi (ELIXIR Spain) among others. The programme will also feature a roundtable with Alfonso Valencia, Abel Ureta-Vidal (CEO, Eagle Genomics) and Alfons Nonell Canals (CEO, Mind the Byte) to discuss Open Data and Tools facilitating innovation. It simplifies the writing of complex distributed computational workflows in a portable and replicable manner. Nextflow allows the seamless parallelization and deployment of any existing application with minimal development and maintenance overhead, irrespective of the original programming language. Containerisation technologies and inbuilt executors for the most popular cluster systems (SLURM, PBS, UGE, LSF, etc) and cloud infrastructure (AWS Batch & Google Cloud Platform) ensures unrivalled deployment. The built-in support for code repositories provides code sharing for the collaborations that matter most and enable your applications to touch the world. But most of all, the active community of that has formed around Nextflow provides inspirational, best-in-class technical examples from global leaders in workflow deployment as well as lasting relationships in a growing community. __Nextflow Training - 17th and 18th September 2019__ The week kicks off with a two-day intensive workshop intended for Nextflow beginners and intermediate users. In these practical sessions, participants learn about Nextflow technology starting from basic through to advanced concepts, with the expectation they will acquire the proficiency to develop and deploy their own workflows. The workshop will be provided across 14 topics including processes, operators, executors, containers and best practices. Sessions will be intensive and hands-on, and taught by experienced instructors from the Galaxy Community. Participants will learn how to install, configure, customize, and extend their own Galaxy servers. Topics include tool configuration, authentication and user management, using heterogeneous storage and compute services, and many other topics that will enable you to get your own Galaxy server up and running, performing well, and used by your community. Galaxy is an open web based platform for biomedical data integration and analysis. It is deployed at large and small organizations around the world and used in a broad range of biomedical research domains, and across the tree of life. Prerequisites: - Comfortable with the Unix/Linux command line - Competent in a Unix/Linux text editor - Some experience with Linux Package Management All participants should bring a wifi-enabled laptop with at least 4GB of memory (more is better), Software to access the command line of a Linux server - If you are running Linux or Mac OS, then you already have this. - If you are running Windows than you’ll need to get something like putty installed before the workshop.
