  • Differential Gene Expression Analysis with R (microarray and NGS)

    25 May 2016

    Brisbane, Australia

Differential Gene Expression Analysis with R (microarray and NGS) https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/differential-gene-expression-analysis-with-r-microarray-and-ngs This hands-on workshop will introduce users of the R software environment to the specific skills and applications used in the analysis of microarray and next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. Practical exercises will include quality control and normalisation of data for differential gene expression, and linking genomic information to external public datasets. Recommended participants Biologists and bioinformaticians wishing to use R for RNA expression analysis. Prior expertise with R and the command line interface is required, to a level equivalent of that provided by the QFAB workshop “Introduction to R”. What will I learn? During this course you will learn about: Pre-processing and quality control of microarray and RNA-Seq data The use of R packages for the identification of differentially-expressed genes from expression data Systems biology interpretation of gene lists using pathway analysis Integration of expression and genome data with Ensembl databases After this course you should be able to: Import Affymetrix CEL files to R as data objects Carry out standard QC tests on microarray and RNA-Seq datasets Use the limma-voom R package to produce lists of differentially expressed genes between pairs of samples Identify over-represented gene ontology categories in gene lists using the GOStats package 2016-05-25 09:00:00 UTC 2016-05-25 00:00:00 UTC University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia University of Queensland Brisbane Australia Sequencing Gene expression Data architecture, analysis and design [] [] [] workshops_and_courses [] ABRQFABR

  • FAIR Data Management in Life Sciences

    27 October 2018

    Lyon, France

FAIR Data Management in Life Sciences https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/fair-data-management-in-life-sciences Are you curious about data management, or how research groups handle their data management pipelines? Do you want to engage with other like-minded researchers in best practice for your data management? Are you overwhelmed by new regulations from funders requiring data management plans? Or are you a developer in the data management sphere? Then come and join our workshop/user meeting on “FAIR Data Management in Life Sciences” as a satellite meeting of the ICSB 2018 in Lyon France. It will be held Saturday 27th October before the main meeting. Registration is free, and is first come first served. Research projects with advanced data management pipelines will be presenting their best practice. Thought leaders in data management will be there to help you with any questions you have. Importantly, YOU get to decide on break out topics or steer discussion during the day. This workshop will be hosted by the FAIRDOM infrastructure (https://fair-dom.org), and bring together FAIRDOM users, FAIR platform developers, and researchers from across the world to discuss: (i) best practices in data management; (ii) cutting edge platform development, and; (iii) community use and requirements of FAIR data platforms. Our key theme this year will be integrating the data pipeline for cross platform data exchange. Throughout the day there will be: (i) presentations by research groups who are pioneering data management in systems, synthetic, and agricultural life-sciences; (ii) networking events so attendees can get to know FAIR platform developers and expert data managers; (iii) training in FAIR data management platforms, including FAIRDOM platforms, and COMBINE standards; (iv) discussions about the future of FAIR and data management within life-sciences. 2018-10-27 09:00:00 UTC 2018-10-27 18:00:00 UTC FAIRDOM ENS Lyon - Site Monod, 46, Allée d'Italie, Lyon, France ENS Lyon - Site Monod, 46, Allée d'Italie Lyon Rhône France Systems biology Data management Systems medicine Bioinformatics University of ManchesterHeidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies [] Life Science Researchersdata managersdata librariansPhD students, postDoc and PIs in Life Sciences, Biomedicine and Bioinformatics with little or no knowledge of network biology tools, who are interested in learning how to apply such tools in their research.life science industry workshops_and_courses first_come_first_served data managementtrainingexpertise exchangelife scienceslife sciences, bioinformaticsSystems biologySynthetic biologysystems medicinemetadata
