Using the Ensembl Genome Browser https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/using-the-ensembl-genome-browser-b763c62e-9dff-40c2-b9bf-82369f4a1911 The [Ensembl Project](http://www.ensembl.org) provides a comprehensive and integrated source of annotation of, mainly vertebrate, genome sequences. This 1-day workshop offers participants the possibility of gaining hands-on experience in the use of the Ensembl genome browser but also provides them with the necessary background information. This course will focus on the vertebrate genomes in Ensembl, however much of what will be covered is also applicable to the non-vertebrates (plants, bacteria, fungi, metazoa and protists) in Ensembl Genomes. There may be some tools and topics that do not apply to non-vertebrates; if you have any questions about this, please email the Ensembl Outreach Project Leader, [mailto:emily@ebi.ac.uk Emily Perry]. • Bioinformatics for Principal Investigators

    16 - 17 September 2019

    Cambridge, United Kingdom

    Elixir node event
Bioinformatics for Principal Investigators https://tess.elixir-europe.org/events/bioinformatics-for-principal-investigators-295ef296-f98b-471c-842e-32786d63fd1e The aim of this workshop is to provide principal investigators with an introduction to the challenges of working with biological data and to the best practices, and tools, needed to perform bioinformatics research effectively and reproducibly. On day 1, we will cover the importance of experimental design, discuss the challenges associated with (i) the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data (utilising RNA-seq as a working example) and (ii) the application of machine learning algorithms, as well as issues relating to reusability and reproducibility. On day 2, we will put into practice concepts from day 1, running a RNA-seq data analysis pipeline, going from raw reads through differential expression analysis and the interpretation of downstream analysis results. Challenges encountered at each step of the analytical pipeline will be discussed. Please note that day 2 is optional. The training room is located on the first floor and there is currently no wheelchair or level access available to this level.
