This workshop will teach you about data structures, tools such as regular expressions and OpenRefine for finding, manipulating and cleaning up data effectively. This workshop will build on your existing knowledge and enable you to quickly apply the skills learned to your own data usage.

The workshop is adapted from the Library Carpentry material originally developed in the UK by staff at the British Library with foundations based on Software/Data Carpentry material.

By the end of the course you will be able to

  • explain terms, phrases, and concepts in data science
  • identify and use best practice in data structures
  • create and use regular expressions in searches
  • use OpenRefine to sort, transform, reorder, manipulate and clean up data.
